Advanced Diagnostic Services for Your Pet's Health

Diagnostic care helps identify illnesses and injuries in pets and also confirms the health of pets who appear well. Based on your pet’s symptoms, we may recommend lab tests, blood work, or advanced imaging to ensure accurate assessment and care.

X-Ray Diagnostics

At Cottleville Animal Hospital, we proudly offer modern digital x-ray technology to support fast, accurate diagnoses. X-rays are essential for identifying issues with the musculoskeletal system, including bone fractures, structural problems, tumors, and more.

Our digital x-rays are quick and efficient, reducing your pet’s exposure to radiation while delivering high-quality images that enable precise evaluations. These images can also be easily shared with you or referred to specialists when needed.

Beyond our advanced equipment, our experienced veterinary team is highly skilled in interpreting x-ray results. Combining cutting-edge technology with expert analysis, we’re committed to providing accurate, science-based solutions for your pet’s health.

In-House Laboratory

At Cottleville Animal Hospital, we’re proud to offer an in-house diagnostic laboratory equipped for essential testing, including Complete Blood Count (CBC), chemistry panels, and screenings for Feline Leukemia (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), and more. Our on-site lab allows us to deliver faster results and maintain close control over the accuracy of each test. When more specialized or complex diagnostics are needed, we work closely with a trusted referral laboratory to ensure your pet has access to the most advanced testing and care available.
Some of the diagnostic tests our veterinary team may suggest include:
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Fecal Ova and Parasite Test
  • Urinalysis
  • Heartworm
  • Thyroid Function
  • Blood Chemistry Panel
  • Feline Leukemia (FeLV)
  • Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Once we recommend diagnostic testing, our team will thoroughly explain the reasons behind each test and gladly address any questions or concerns you may have. These tests provide valuable insights that cannot be obtained through a physical exam alone.

Blood Chemistry Panel: A group of tests that offers important information about specific organ systems, such as the liver, kidneys, and pancreas, helping to detect potential issues early.

Complete Blood Count (CBC): Measures the levels of red and white blood cells in the bloodstream and helps diagnose conditions such as anemia, infection, inflammation, and blood clotting disorders.

Thyroid Tests: The thyroid gland regulates metabolism and energy levels. Thyroid disorders, which are common in senior pets, can be accurately detected through thyroid testing.

Electrolyte Testing: Electrolyte testing helps detect dehydration and provides important information about the balance of essential salts and minerals in the body.

Urinalysis: This routine test, performed on a urine sample, helps detect kidney issues, urinary tract infections, and other urinary health concerns in pets.

Fecal Tests: Fecal tests are used to detect intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and whipworms. We recommend bringing a fresh stool sample to your pet’s annual check-up to help ensure they remain free of harmful parasites.

Allergy & Dermatology

Allergies and skin conditions can leave your pet feeling itchy, uncomfortable, and unwell if left untreated. At Cottleville Animal Hospital, our experienced team is specially trained to diagnose and manage a wide range of dermatological issues that can affect your pet’s skin, coat, ears, eyes, and paws. Many of these conditions may require long-term care, making a strong, open relationship with your veterinarian essential. Our primary goal is to identify the underlying cause of your pet’s discomfort and provide effective relief. To do this, we begin with a thorough physical exam and may also recommend additional steps such as gathering detailed information from you, running blood tests, or combining multiple diagnostic approaches to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Signs your pet may be experiencing a dermatological issue include:
  • Excessive biting or licking of the skin
  • Frequent itching and scratching
  • Red, irritated, or watery eyes
  • Unusual irritability or sudden aggression
  • Flaky skin, rashes, or visible irritation
  • Changes in behavior, such as seeking more or less attention than usual
